You’ll be better off getting a loan from a credit union. If you aren’t a member of a credit union, then join one. They have lower interest rates than banks or loans from computer manufacturers.http://www.findacreditunion.com/
Sorry… I just have to ask where in Ontario does it get down to -40C? Kapuskasing? Kenora? Timmins? At my cottage, near Sudbury, it does sometimes go above 40C (humidex) in the summer. On this date last year, even way up there, it was still 5C. They may go as low as -15C occasionally, in the heart of winter.I live near Toronto, and even -5C is brutally cold. (It’s 4C now, and that’s below average for this time of year.) My Great Dane begins shivering at 10C…hence the need for a coat, and boots for the ice and salt. Thankfully, I don’t expect daily temperatures to remain below freezing for another few weeks yet, and we’ll be back on the plus side by the end of February. In the 20 or so years I lived in Toronto, we had snow on the ground at Christmas…what? …2, 3, 4 times? -40C? Really? Huh.EDIT: I have to say that those who say no gear is ever needed by a dog, they must have egregiously-limited experience with dogs. My Dane, for example, not only is visibly cold well-above freezing temperatures, but she walks like an old lady in bare feet, when there is ice and salt on the ground. Put her boots on, and she’s back to her normal self, if not even more carefree. (I’ve actually thought she might hurt herself, given the chances she’ll take when she’s wearing her boots, when compared to when she’s not.) When it’s cold, there’s just no comparison. And even in the summer, when the weather is good, we use boots to protect her feet from sharp rocks when hiking and swimming. Same thing goes, though. She carefully ambles around in bare feet, but with her boots, she’s nearly fearless. There are benefits to gear like coats and boots. As in previous posts of this kind, I make the distinction between those items meant to improve the dog’s comfort and safety, and those meant merely for the owner’s enjoyment.EDIT for Bassett: You wrote, “EDIT: woerden – here in the Ottawa area it DOES go down to -40″Just so you know…According to Environment Canada, the lowest temperature EVER RECORDED in Ottawa was -38.9C in 1933. Average January temperature is -10.8C.I’m just commenting on the Asker’s claim, “I live in Ontario Canada, I if you’re unfamiliar with the climate in this area, the temperature ranges anywhere from 0 degrees Celsius (32 Fahrenheit) all the way down to -40 degrees Celsius (-40 Fahrenheit) within the months of October to March, sometimes April.” Uh…that isn’t even close to accurate. It’s above freezing where the majority of Ontarians live right up to December, and it it’s back above freezing by February…early March at the latest. Sure, there can be cold snaps even below -20C. But to suggest that -40C is a typical low temperature is ridiculous, or that the highest temperature during those months is zero. I don’t know where people get this kind of stuff. They must be very imaginative.
A Google search turned up Target (!) and Petsmart as stores for doggles, and there are numerous online retailers that sell them. Heheh, I didn’t know what these were until I researched them – they’re quite sporty! Do you ride a motorbike?
The stinkin’ SNUGGIE! It is dumb as hell.
Nope. It is a good idea to protect a dogs eyes if they have a tendency to ride in a car with their head out the window though.
The doggles ones look like they’d be more comfortable for her. Both pairs should offer about the same protection. Animals’ eyes can be just as easily damaged as human eyes. I don’t know what these other people are saying about dogs not needing protection from the sun. I guess that’s why there are a lot of older blind dogs out there. I think your dog is pretty darn lucky to have a caring and trendy owner!
If they sell dog “clothes”, then I don’t even need to look at the site to tell you I don’t like them….Dogs don’t need clothes, that’s why God gave them fur!
Go to: http://www.anysoldier.comClick on “Where To Send”In the Search Bloc type in “Military Dogs/Dog Handlers”A list should come up with anyonethat is a Dog Handler…Thanks for Caring…
I am gonna just throw this out there….”sdklcnhsdjklfnasklcdk” is not a dog person, or an animal person for that matter!I would definitely do it. Although this is the first time that I have heard about it, and I don’t know when they started doing this but, I would be surprised if this was new. There was a study that was done recently about canine intelligence and it found that many dogs are as smart as 2.5 year old children ..knowing, if I remember correctly, as many as 250 words. And have faired rather well on other tests which measure arithmetic, social skills, and basic emotions. Many ppl believe that dogs are sentient & have freethinking cognitive capabilities. Many ppl also believe that sentience is the sign that a sentient being has a soul. There have been many stories, especially about larger dogs, where someone who had a dog that died and then one night while they were downstairs and they were getting ready to go (back) to bed; they were somewhere, like in the living room with the tv off, etc., and they hear a very distinctive noise. And that would be the clickitty-clack of a dogs nails against the tiles on the kitchen floor…A ghost is really nothing more than a disembodied soul! And since many ppl obviously consider their dogs to be members of the family, & not really “pets” in the traditional sense, ….if your mom was going blind and special glasses would help her see better, even if it would only last a few months bc eventually she might go completely blind, wouldn’t you get them for her or help her get them thru whatever insurance that would hopefully pay for them?? It would obviously increase her quality of life and making her feel and be less dependent on others so, why wouldn’t you get them!? Why wouldn’t you get them for your dog if you truly do consider them to be a member of your family?
Hi there… most cats would resist having a mask covering their eyes/face and can easily slip out of them not to mention likely causing more injury to the eye when this happens. Ideally, you want to keep the area expose to air to help aid in the healing process. There are various sizes of the elizabethan collar shrouds that pet stores have which may be better suited to prevent your cat from irritating himself… perhaps one with a longer bail and smaller neck may be helpful. Since your kitty has feline herpes, it may be worthwhile to look into the different shrouds at each of the pet store
I’m a Michelle Obama fan. Besides being a very attractive woman, which is nothing to sneeze at, she is accomplished and clearly intelligent. Best of all she doesn’t suffer fools easily which may help her husband keep his sanity. I like Elizabeth Edwards for most of the same reasons. Its easy to see the Edwards or the Obamas as bright couples who equally bring a lot to each other and their relationship. Cindy McCain is a very rich woman who bought her husband as a boy toy and seems to be addicted to Percocet, Vicodin and bad plastic surgery. She is 20 years younger than her husband – which does not make for the partnership of equals I think makes for a good marriage. Remind me again why its OK for Republicans to divorce their wives for much younger women but not Democrats???
these look like hreat toys, keep in mind that when s/he get her puppy she might chew through it, but s/he might not, my dog has had the same teddy for around three years now and all thats happened is he is missing an eye (due to my daughter) i recon this would be a great toy for a puppy (who by the way is SOOOOO cute!!!) (i think the Squirrel would be the best (only coz it looks the best lol))(PLEASE vote as best)
I think they are great, expecially if your dog is sensitive to light, or has eye problems.. they are also highly reccommended for albino and light pigmented dogs as well.I actually found a cheapie version at Target a few years ago in the “See Spot Save” bins. My dog is funny about having bright lights in his eyes, and I use his during car rides.
If you can get your Pug to wear sunglasses … I tried to get ours to wear those doggles … Oh, yeah, that’s them. I got ours from Drs. Foster and Smith website. They look basically the same. Ours don’t like wearing them … but I am still trying. It’s a good idea trying to protect their eyes. I got them so their eyes could be protected while we were riding in the convertible bug … pugbug. You will need to watch your Pug outside. They aren’t heat or cold tolerant. Pugs are prone to heat stroke if left outside too long and they can also catch colds. The best temps for outside is between 27/28 degrees to 73/74. You need to watch them when temps are between 15-27 degrees and also when the temps get to 74-80 … anything below 15 degrees and above 80 degrees is really hazardous for them. Don’t let them stay outside for longer than necessary at those temps. There’s not really a whole lot you can do for them with their breathing – other than paying attention to them while they’re outside. If they start to get winded, rest for a while, give them water, put them in the shade or take them inside. Here’s a website dedicated to Pugs and their health problems. It can explain it in more detail …
I think it’s a great idea!!! The basket is cute, wish my big dogs could fit in it! LOLThe doggles are awesome my dogs wear them all the time.here’s a link that’s cheaper thoughhttp://www.3dogsandme.com/ShoppingCart/Templates/SubCategory.asp?G=7780C209-7707-49FB-B6F4-16756A560D46&RID=299

Yes, it is unnesscessary but some people love treating their dogs like their children. If they have money to spend, then by all means….
Well, I haven’t felt like a complete fool but certainly foolish – I like to include references and links in my answers and only recently I tried a link in one of my answers only to find that it didn’t work. That’s when I realised that if I put brackets around the links, the last bracket was added to the URL and subsequently wouldn’t work. Not only did I feel foolish but I was annoyed that some excellent and really helpful references had been rendered useless – I felt I had let some askers down. I did go back and fix the ones that I could, but some were resolved and are memorialised.Another time I got my centuries mixed up in a question about Christmas. The answerer after me very graciously pointed it out and so, in the interests of open discussion, I left my answer intact but added an ‘edit’ apology/correction. I still felt silly though!I also once added a ‘comment’ to a ‘best answer’ that may have been a little harsh. The question was one of those homework-type ones – 6 or 7 questions about early America and I spent ages answering them and finding good resources for her. In her question, she had promised 10 points to the person who answered all the questions and then she chose an answer that only answered some (and even then, not very fully). I was livid and posted a (thankfully) quite controlled comment but later removed it as I realised it probably reflected more badly on me than her!!
I have used them on dogs with optical problems like ICs and they work great. Also they are an improvement in looks over the old style Doggles.
